Guest Programming Director
ELLA MARDER is a French-American curator and creative strategy consultant. She specializes in the curation of multidisciplinary conference series and festivals, the creation and development of cultural programming and partnerships for institutions, projects and artists spanning all practices, in both Europe and the U.S. From 2008-2013, she served as right hand to the Cultural Attaché of the French Embassy’s Visual and Performing Arts department in New York. There, she specialized in fostering and advancing artistic exchange between France and the US. In 2013 she became the founding Program & Managing Director for Pioneer Works, Center for Art and Innovation, where she held an integral role in shaping Pioneer Works’ exhibitions, outreach, education, and residency programs – including the now always anticipated Second Sundays monthly open houses featuring open studios, dance, and live music; and annual Village Fete fundraiser. From January 2016 to January 2019, Marder served as the Director of Cultural Programming for NeueHouse, a collective workspace for people in the creative industries located in NY and LA, where she remains an ambassador at-large today. In spring 2019, Marder became the Programming Director of Les Napoleons, a bi-annual conference series, based in Paris and taking place in Arles and Val d'Isère. She is poised to join UNFINISHED as a guest curator for the first time this year. An ever-after cultural nomad, Marder is currently based in Paris with her husband, artist Daniel Horowitz, and their 2,5 year-old son Milo, though she can often be found in New York.
